Why Choose The Roanne Program

Roanne is an Integrated Part of JCAHO-accredited Optimum Performance Institute: For nearly a decade OPI has helped young adults find emotional stability, balance  and direction in their lives.

The Roanne Program and its parent program Optimum Performance Institute are two of the most respected programs in the nation helping men and women ages 17-28 transition into independence.

OPI established Roanne for young adults with Borderline Traits or Borderline Personality  Disorder  and co-occurring conditions.

OPI and its Roanne Program have the credentials, long-standing and proven techniques, and state-of-the-art programs that seamlessly work together to help young adults learn new responses and behaviors to replace old habituated and ineffective responses to the stressors of life. Our location, 45 miles from downtown Los Angeles in Woodland Hills, CA, allows us to do this because it offers multiple opportunities for achieving small successes which participants can then build on as they learn how to change.

OPI is a member of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP)

2. Proven Techniques and Therapies

In Phase I at Roanne, participants are steeped in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and innovative and enhanced Mindfulness Techniques delivered  by Dr. Marvin Belzer from the UCLA Mindfulness Awareness Research Center (MARC) Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. This is in addition to mindfulness opportunities expressed through innovative approaches such as Yoga, Equine Therapy, etc.

These techniques are combined with proven techniques used by OPI for nearly a decade to mobilize Emerging Adults and help them find direction, balance and treater responsibility for their lives.

3. Personalization of Program

Roanne knows its transformative power lies in the personalization of its program; we do not believe in assembly line techniques and “one-size fits all” approaches. Inherent in our therapies (DBT, mindfulness, etc) are very individualized and very personal responses. Likewise, our program therefore accommodates variations in personalities and learning styles and life experiences.

Each Roanne participant is guided and supported throughout his or her entire program by the same therapist/case manager who serves as the point person for the family and their referring professional. This one-on-one oversight provides continuity, accountability, and ensures the individual’s unique needs are being met.

4. Team Approach

Without a doubt our strength comes from our team approach.

Participants begin entering the “real world” as they receive extensive training and intensive guidance from our specialists in our Departments of

  • Education
  • Career Development
  • Life Coach
  • Extracurricular and Recreational Activities
  • Community Service and Volunteering

All together, this team helps participants develop and achieve “real world” goals. Mindfulness and DBT techniques learned by the participants are continually repeated and reinforced in a variety of scenarios, under the guidance and encouragement of these department heads.

5. Location and Resources

Roanne Program, Woodland Hills, CaNot enough can be said about where Roanne is located since the majority of young adults at Roanne and OPI say they eventually want to live in a metropolitan area, a complex and exciting cultural setting.

Therefore, we believe the highest probability of success for them is to learn to take advantage of the myriad of opportunities a metropolitan area has to offer while they have the support and structure they need. In this way, they can learn to make decisions and persevere at them without being distracted by emotional dysregulation.

Roanne’s Phase I (Immersion Phase) and Phase II (Transformational Phases) take place in a vibrant locale surrounded by endless opportunities for learning and growth. The Los Angeles area is home to multiple colleges and universities, specialty vocational institutes and endless employment opportunities. The urban area boasts first class medical facilities, world-renown fine arts facilities, museums and cultural centers.

Southern California has extraordinary recreational offerings available year-round.

Our experience has shown that participants need to be able to transition into real life and be actively engaged in further discovery of their talents and interests. The Roanne Village provides the optimum setting for participants to pursue their passion while putting in place their newly learned techniques.
